Les Ressortissants Européens

Voting rights of nationals of the European Union : As a member of the European Union, you can vote in France for both European and town council elections.

Conditions :
To exercise your rights you must fulfil the following conditions:
- your place of residence is in France, or you reside in it continuously,
- you have not been deprived of your voting rights in your country of origin.

It only takes two minutes to register your right to vote and the forms are very straightforward. You have to contact the town hall election services to be registered on a complementary roll or list: you simply go into the Town Hall and request "Inscriptions Listes Electorales". The inscription clerk will even help you to complete the forms but there are also English speaking employees at the Town Hall in case you should have any queries.

There are two different kinds of rolls :
One for town council elections and one for European elections: each roll requires a separate registration form since their requirements are different. For both rolls you must provide supporting documents i.e. an identity document (such as a passport) plus proof of residence (such as a recent utility bill or local taxes' demand).

- For European elections: you complete a form indicating your nationality, your French address, and, if required your voting place in your country. The form includes a statement that you are not deprived of your voting rights in your country of origin and that you will vote only in France for the European elections. Obviously, you are not allowed to vote twice by voting 'at home' too so before completing this form, you need to know that you will still be living here when these elections take place.

- For town council elections: you complete and sign a one page form with your name, nationality, place of birth, and your French address. The form includes a statement that you are not deprived of your voting rights in your country of origin.
